Leafs’ Quast commits to Arizona State

Nelson Leafs forward Ryan Quast has committed to play for the Arizona State University Sun Devils in the ACHA next season.

Quast tied for the Leafs’ team lead in points with 36 in 44 games and added three goals in six KIJHL Teck Cup Championship games. The previous playoff season, Quast had seven points in 22 games. In 80 career regular season games with the Leafs, Quast had 24 goals, 25 assists for 49 points.

The Hanna, Alberta product thanked the Leafs organization for a “remarkable experience” during his two seasons.

“The coaching staff has given me the opportunity to grow as both a player and individual,” said Quast in a news release. “My development has been a great reflection of the knowledgeable coaching staff and the effort they put into each player. It was great to be a part of such an amazing community and stand-up organization.”

Leafs head coach Briar McNaney said Quast made a big impact on the team.

“His impact off the ice is what makes him truly special,” added McNaney. “His willingness to be a community member, a great teammate, good billet, and good role model to his teammates and fans are what makes him unique.”
