Drug alert issued for West Kootenay

Interior Health has issued drug alerts for Nelson, Castlegar, and Trail.

They say they’re worried about down with high concentrations of fluorofentanyl benzodiazepines that is associated with multiple overdoses.

They say the drug comes in light green, blue, and purple pebbles and has a high risk of fatal overdose. Smoking it is not safer than injecting it, they add.

Flurofentanyl ranges from slightly less potent to more potent than fentanyl while benzodiazepine can induce amnesia and sedation.

The alerts are in effect until July 1.
