Fire south of Nelson deemed suspicious

Nelson Fire Rescue and BC Wildfire together put out a group of small fires Sunday afternoon.

A media release from Nelson Fire Rescue stated they responded after receiving reports of smoke on a mountain above Selous Creek, south of Nelson.

When crews arrived on scene, they found multiple fires covering about half a hectare but were able to contain and extinguish them promptly.

The cause is being considered suspicious.

Nelson Fire Rescue is asking anyone with information on the fire’s cause to contact them at 250-352-3103 or the BC Wildfire Service at 1-800-663-5555
