Nelson council rejects homeless camp study funding

Nelson council has turned down a request to fund a feasibility study on a permanent camp for the homeless.

Councillor Donna Macdonald says the Nelson Housing Committee decided to refer this to the experts on the Nelson Committee on Homelessness.

They will see if they can establish the nature and size of the problem.

Pastor Jim Reimer – who runs a hot meal program – made the funding request saying many local people have no where to live and a structured, safe, monitored camp could make sense.
