Nelson Police crackdown: Five arrested in four days

A media release from the Nelson Police Department said a total of five people been arrested following to a string of unrelated criminal activity this month.

Oct. 14, three people charged with assault 

The arrests started on Oct. 14 when NPD responded to reports of a badly injured male on Baker Street. Three people, who were known to the victim, allegedly assaulted and robbed him with weapons.  

The release says the victim was able to escape and seek help but remains in hospital with serious injuries.

Police have arrested and charged Brenden Rothweiler, Jennifer Henderson, and Spencer Henderson with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and robbery.  

Oct. 17, rock throwing assailant apprehended 

Oct. 17 Nelson Police arrested a local man after responding to reports of a man throwing rocks at people on Lakeside Drive.

The media release said that offender also reportedly threw a pole at a victim while he was calling the police.

The offender has been charged with assault with a weapon and for numerous outstanding warrants and remains in police custody. 

Oct. 18, shoplifter arrested  

At around noon on Oct. 18, Nelson Police responded to a report of shoplifting in progress at a building supply store.

The release says when they arrived, surveillance footage showed a male fleeing the store with a chainsaw taken from the shelf.

The suspect was found nearby and ran from police for several blocks throughout the downtown core. Community members helped police locate the suspect and he was arrested. They recovered $500 from the suspect and returned to the store.

Charges of theft under $5,000 and obstruction are being recommended.
