CUPE strike "misguided":Castlegar council

The City of Castlegar feels striking unionized employees have been misguided by their leadership.

This from mayor Lawrence Chernoff in a press release put out by the city following news CUPE Local 2262 issued 72 notice of full strike action Wednesday.

The union feels their concerns around job security were not addressed in an indepdent mediator’s recommendations that included a 6.1% wage increase over the proposed four year contract.

However, in the press release, City Manager John Malcolm says he doesn’t believe job security is a live issue since the city hasn’t laid off a full-time regular employee in over 20 years.
