Nelson solar energy proposal attracts interest

There’s no shortage of early interest in a community solar garden in Nelson.

Nelson Hydro GM Alex Love says sixty people have already signed up to be included for further info when it’s ready to go.

He figures there’ll be enough community interest to make it viable.

The idea is that people could lease or buy part of the solar array and their share of electricity revenue that goes into the grid comes off their hydro bill.

Among various sites being considered include Elephant Mountain, the airport land and former waste transfer station. Love says while a higher elevation site (like the mountain) may be better from a light perspective they also have to consider proximity for maintenance and access purposes.
