UPDATED: Whitewater Ski Resort delays opening by a week

Ski and snowboard season was set to resume at Whitewater this week, with a tentative start date of Friday. However, an announcement from the resort Wednesday stated that they’ve been forced to delay re-opening tentatively to Dec. 15 due to poor snow conditions

“Due to the extreme weather that has impacted our area, we are delaying our resort opening. The atmospheric river that is moving through the region has brought with it a significant amount of rain and has reduced our snowpack to the point of not allowing us to safely open for our guests,” stated the resort in a facebook post.

Access to the resort remains prohibited until the new tentative opening day. It’s been inaccessible since Dec. 1 to allow crews to prepare lifts, runs, and ensure the mountain is set up for the community.

Local skiers and snowboarders will notice a few major differences at the resort this season, including the addition of the new Raven chairlift, changes to the base layout, and a new passenger drop-off area.

The resort also said it’s important to note access to the Lot 4 parking lot will now be from the right to ensure pedestrian safety, optimize parking space, and keep the flow of traffic moving.

New season pass purchasers can pick up their cards at Whitewater’s head office at 602 Lake St. In Nelson.

However, 2022/23 pass holders who repurchased for this season will see their 2023/24 pass automatically uploaded to last year’s card.

The resort stated that they will be announcing further updates for opening day over the next week.
