Wintry weather hits local passes:time for avalanche prep

A clear indication that winter has arrived in our area is when crews start getting into avalanche preparation mode on Kootenay Pass.

District Avalanche Technician Rob Anderson says they’re testing each individual remotely triggered device today.

…he says it’s like 25 kg of TNT  when it goes off.

They had 25 cm of snow on the Pass the last 24 hours.

Anderson says that’s a little late this year and he doesn’t expect avalanche conditions for a number of weeks. But he adds that situation can always change quickly on the pass.
