Curbside collection referendum for RDCK Area’s F, H and J voted down

Residents in the Regional District of Central Kootenay voted against a plan to introduce curbside collection services in Area’s F, H and J.

Area F includes the communities of Beasley, Taghum, Willow Point, Nasookin, Grohman, Crescent Beach, Sproule Creek, Six Mile and Bonnington.

Area H includes communities in the Slocan Valley.

Area J includes communities includes Ootischenia, Robson, Renata, Deer Park, Brooklyn, Shields, Raspberry, Syringa and Fairview.

Area F and H results

1,025 voters from both electoral areas voted against, with 131 voting in favor. Only 30 per cent of eligible voters participated in the referendum.  

If it was adopted, the service would have cost residents $280 per year.

Area J results 

830 voters chose not to support the referendum, with 103 in favor.  Only 39 per cent of eligible voters participated in the referendum.  

If it was adopted, the service would have cost residents $283 per year.
