CPR response to night train concerns unacceptable:councillor

Canadian Pacific Rail’s response to a letter from all three levels of government in Castlegar is unacceptable.

This from City councillor Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff after MP Alex Atamanenko, MLA Katrine Conroy and Mayor Lawrence Chernoff reached out to the national transportation giant.

The community is outraged after changes to CPR’s West Kootenay operations resulted in a train blaring its horn whistle through town late at night.

CPR’s Mike LoVecchio was met by a crowd of over a hundred people last month when he attended a regular council meeting to hear concerns of residents.

LoVecchio wrote in his response that he disagreed with the city’s suggestion that residents of the community have been “victimized.”

He will be back in the area later this week to hear concerns from Trail residents about the same night train.
