Nelson moves closer to commercial composting

Nelson could have its first commercial composting facility by next year.

The city’s Corporate Energy Coordinator Fiona Galbraith has been researching best options for the local collection and processing of organic waste.

It could possibly be a vessel or drum that would breakdown contents using microbes.

She hopes to present her recommendations to businesses, condo developments, the college and schools early in the new year.

The composting system would not be for the average residential customer as the RDCK is considering curbside organics collection in the years ahead.
