Nelson's Restorative Justice volunteers now at work

Nelson’s new Restorative Justice Program is up and running.

The group of trained facilitators is already dealing with five cases and they’re likely to handle about 40 a year.

One of the volunteers is Jo Caldecott.

It brings the offender and victim together mainly to address the victim’s needs -and to make things right …like answering the question – why me?

Mary Nishio is another one of the volunteers who’ve undergone dozens of hours of training.

The program keeps certain matters out of the courts, saves on Nelson police resources and can give first-offenders a second chance.
