Nelson city council has been given the most detailed information yet on affordable housing needs.
Two new reports give deep insight into demographics, gaps and priority groups.
For example councillor Donna MacDonald says there are up to 25 people on the wait list for Anderson Gardens and up to 35 seniors-friendly units needed in the private market.
These stats can help developers and partners work on meeting the demand.
The reports – from the Nelson Housing Committee – also suggest the city do several things like create more infill or laneway housing and offer incentives for fixing up a heritage home if the owner puts in multiple suites.
