One person seriously injured in head on collision on Highway 3A/6

A collision involving a car and a loaded dump truck Tuesday morning has left one person with serious injuries.

A press release from Nelson Fire & Rescue Services stated that crews responded to reports of the collision just after 6:40 a.m.

Upon arrival, crews observed that the car who was traveling east bound, collided head on with the dump truck, who was in the left turn lane towards Granite Road.

The driver of the car was trapped in their vehicle, and NFRS crews used Jaws to remove the driver’s door, providing work access in coordination with ambulance paramedics.

The driver of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and was taken from the scene and transported directly to hospital, while the driver of the dump truck was uninjured.

Emergency services remained on the scene for one hour, routing East Bound traffic on Highway 3A/6 onto Granite Road.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by the RCMP.

Nelson Fire & Rescue Services would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to always wear seat belts when driving, as they stated in this case, the proper use of seat belts and airbags were a factor in preventing a significantly worse outcome.
