Wednesday evening’s thunderstorm sparked seven fires in the Nelson area, many which remain out of control.
As of 9:30 Thursday morning, four of the seven fires remain out of control, two have been contained, and one has been successfully controlled.
According to the BC Wildfire Service Map, the four fires that remain out of control are listed as follows:
5 Mile Creek
Originated approximately ten kilometres northeast of Nelson. It’s estimated to be around 0.2 hectares and is suspected to be caused by a dry lightning strike.
Eagle Creek
Originated approximately 6.5 kilometres west of Nelson. The blaze is around 0.6 hectares in size.
East Sandy Creek
Originated about six kilometres southwest of Nelson. It’s around 0.005 hectares in size.
Sealous Creek
About six kilometres south of Nelson. It’s approximately 0.002 hectares.
Controlled Fires
As of 9:30 a.m., the 0.02-hectare fire at Sandy Creek, southwest of Nelson, has been deemed under control.
Two other fires, one six kilometres south of Nelson at Gold Creek, and one at Upper Sandy Creek have been listed as held.
