Reflecting on 26 years of blood testing in Trail

An outgoing and very long-serving Trail city councillor used Monday night’s final public meeting to reflect on the strides taken with blood lead levels in local kids.

When Gord Derosa was first elected 26 years ago he was made chair of the Lead Task Force.

The key goal in Trail is getting 95% of all children to test under 10-micrograms per deciliter. The national average is 1.5.

Derosa says Teck’s modernization efforts, community involvement and the removal of lead from gasoline have all played their role.
