Just how cold is it really going to get with the Arctic front arriving the next few days?
There are wildly varying forecasts – anywhere between -9 to -23 depending on which weather forecaster you check.
But local weather expert Ron Lakeman with the South East Fire Centre says at this stage he’s expecting no colder than -10.
That’s because unlike Pacific fronts that work their way over our mountains an Arctic front stays low.
The Arctic air may hit the East Kootenay but Lakeman says latest computer models suggest it would need a sustained push to get through the Purcell and Selkirk ranges as well.
