Castlegar city workers call for calm/respect

The tit-for-tat contest for the moral high ground continues between the city of Castlegar and its striking workers.

CUPE Local 2262 President Leford Lafayette has issued an open letter to the community following the one from the mayor earlier this week.

In it he says the situation calls for calm and respect but some of the exchanges and discussion has not been appropriate. He says the recent communications from the city are creating a wedge that could impact the city for years.

Lafayette says no one benefits from insults, taunts or personal attacks.

The mayor’s open letter this week suggested the unionized employees were abusing the grievance handling process at the expense of taxpayers.
