Recent tensions galvanized SD8/CUPE into moving forward

Recent tension between the Kootenay Lake school board and support workers actually helped them come together.

This from SD8 Director of Human Resource Services Deanna Holitzki  with news of the ratified five year deal with the CUPE local this week.

Last year the board held out against using local budget for government-mandated CUPE wage increases. Holitzki says that sent a strong message to government and galvanized the relationship locally as they moved forward on better educational services for students.

The new CUPE deal includes provincial efforts to improve training and address concerns of Educational Assistants in the classroom.
