Nelson Hydro may ponder LED street light conversion

With no end in sight to spiraling energy price increases across this province Nelson Hydro may consider a conversion to LED and/or dimmable street lights.

This from GM Alex Love who says the idea has been considered before but they’ve been waiting for the project to show a cost-benefit.

FortisBC rates go up 3.5% in January and that will impact Nelson because the Queen City buys around 50% of its power needs from them.

Love says LED lights would allow them to cut back on that wholesale purchase.

Castlegar recently converted all their street lights and Trail is doing some too.
