The BC Teachers Federation has come up with a pay-out arrangement for the $105 million fund that was part of this summer’s labour settlement.
The money is for a dozen years of grievances regarding over-sized classrooms.
But the BCTF decided only teachers employed last year and from September this year should get it – in other words those who were part of the strike. Otherwise Nelson and District Teachers Association President Paul Boscariol says it would have been almost impossible to work out who should get what.
Some have suggested the pay-out is effectively a signing bonus, but Boscariol says many teachers had years of grievances.
