The BC Highway Patrol is seeking witnesses and/or dash camera footage of a fatal collision that claimed the life of an eight-year-old boy at the Nancy Greene Lake Junction.
The collision occurred just after 8 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, where Highways 3 and 3B meet.
A media release from the BC Highway Patrol states that the collision involved a snowplow dump truck and a green Kia SUV.
At the time of the crash, road conditions were cold and icy, with freezing rain.
The eight-year-old boy who tragically lost his life was in the green Kia SUV with his five-year-old brother and 44-year-old stepfather, who was driving. Both the stepfather and brother sustained minor physical injuries, are stable and recovering.
The driver of the snowplow dump truck, a 65-year-old man from the Castlegar area, was unharmed.
A 57-year-old pedestrian also sustained life-altering injuries when he was struck by the Kia after it spun away from the dump truck. The Castlegar man had stopped on the highway to assist with an unrelated vehicle that had gone into the ditch before being struck by the Kia.
The fatal incident is under investigation. Nelson RCMP are hoping to speak with anyone with information and are seeking dash camera footage of the incident.
“We are looking for dash camera video or people who may have seen the green Kia or the yellow snowplow dump truck in the moments leading up to the crash. BC Highway Patrol has already spoken to multiple witnesses, but for obvious reasons, we want to make sure we investigate thoroughly,” said Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.
