Fire hydrant down

Nelson Police are appealing for information after a fire hydrant was completely knocked off its base and left laying on the sidewalk 15 meters way in Lower Fairview early Friday morning.

The water main was left exposed and flowing uncontrollably, causing extensive flooding to the neighbouring property.

The vehicle responsible for the damage had come to rest in some bushes just off of the sidewalk, with the driver fleeing the scene on foot by the time police arrived.

Officers remained on scene until the water could be shut off and the vehicle towed.

Police are still investigating the circumstances that led to the crash and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information is asked to contact the Nelson Police on 250-354-3919.
