‘Profound grief’: Skate Canada releases statement on devastating US air crash

Reaction continues to pour in following a fatal mid-air collision between a passenger jet and a U.S. army helicopter near Washington D-C.

Officials announced this morning that there’s no hope of survivors among the 64 people aboard the American Airlines commuter jet and the three soldiers aboard the Black Hawk helicopter.

While names of those on board have not been released, U.S. Figure Skating says several of its athletes, coaches and family members were on board the plane.

In a statement on X, Skate Canada, the national governing body for figure skating in Canada, says they stand in solidarity with their American colleagues and offer their unwavering support as they navigate this immeasurable loss.
