Community school seeks political and financial support

The Blueberry Creek Community School at Castlegar is hoping the city can provide funding and advocate for their continued survival.

The non-profit day care, youth and seniors centre leases the old building from the school district and hope they’ll sell it to them for a nominal fee of $1.

But the group’s Rebecca Mcdonnell says that decision lies with the Ministry of Education so getting the city support is key.

The group is also asking for $60,000 from the city over three years to help run the place and make improvements.

McDonnell says the centre employs 21 people full-time and provides many important community services.
