Regional airports study in the works

How can air service in our region be improved?

It’s an issue a study from the West Kootenay Economic Development Dialogue plans to look at.

Co-Chair Andrea Wilkey says this follows research from the Rural Development Institute at Selkirk College.

Wilkey says creating reliable air service is something that needs to be a regional collaboration as Nelson, Trail, Castlegar, and Rossland are all part of the group.

She says right now there is a ‘perception’ that air access to the West Kootenay isn’t reliable.

But for example they don’t actually have exact numbers of how many cancellations are here – at Trail and Castlegar airports – compared to other areas of the province.
