Nelson air cadet outshines in marksmanship competition

Nelson air cadet Flight Corporal Mercy Ward showed exemplary skill in a recent West Kootenay marksmanship competition held this past week at the Kemball (Trail) Armouries.

The member of the 561 Osprey Nelson Royal Canadian Air Cadet squadron’s range team performed exceptionally, scoring 322 out of the possible 400 points in competition.

The 14-year-old grade 9 student, who has been in the program for three years continues to showcase skill and dedication.

Ward’s favorite aspects of the Cadet program include drill and participating in the marksmanship program; however, her favorite experience was the recent training exercise at the Vernon Cadet Training Centre. The Nelson Air Cadet squadron meets every Wednesday evening at the Nelson Eagles Hall and occasionally on weekends throughout the year.
