A Nelson city councillor supports strengthening local food security but is also sounding a cautious tone.
Michael Dailly is speaking to a Nelson Food Cupboard report. It suggests more greenhouses for example because they say many people want to grow more and have access to more local produce.
Dailly thinks food security should be a priority and supports the creation of a Municipal Food Policy Council. A city councillor could sit at the head of that table.
But he adds the city should move at the pace the community wants to go.
He agrees Nelson should be tapping into the hundreds of millions of dollars spent out-of-region on food.
