Terms of new CUPE deal for Castlegar city workers

We now know the terms of the new collective agreement between the city of Castlegar and its unionized workers.

It’s a 6-year term – which is two years longer than what was originally on the table.

However the union says the key issues of job security language and grievance handling have been addressed through what they call “letters of agreement.”

The salary increase is effectively what was part of an initial mediator’s recommendation- but the union rejected that contract. The additional years of the contract each feature a 2% wage increase while the first 4 years average out at around the 6.1% mark.

The two sides will also take part in a BC Labour Relations Board sponsored relationship enhancement program.

Cupe local 2262 overwhelmingly ratified the deal Tuesday night.

The city must still ratify for the strike to end – which will be by January 5th at the latest.
