Nelson council includes food security on priority setting

It appears Nelson council wants to get on with addressing local food security.

It has voted unanimously to refer a recent report on boosting local food production to its priority setting session.

The Nelson Food Cupboard put together the report and General Coordinator Kim Charlesworth is delighted.

The report calls for the city to create a Food Policy Council so that more can be done to grow and access local food.

This may involve community gardens, city greenhouses ,chicken coops and bee-hives.
