The RDCK board has some decisions to make on improvements coming to rural fire-fighting.
The changes are bound to involve more taxpayer costs.
Regional Fire Chief Terry Swan is to recommend every one of the 18 volunteer departments become trained in so-called Interior Attack – where firefighters go into a burning building – primary for search and rescue.
He believes the more training the better …but there’s the practical human element too .
Six departments already have the Interior level training.
The second likely expense coming is the directive from BC’s Fire Commissioner that all jurisdictions now have a full-time Risk Management Officer to identify and pre-plan around firefighter responses.
