Quick thinking pays off in Castlegar credit card arrests

Quick thinking by a victim of crime and local businesses in reporting suspicious credit card activity in Castlegar helped RCMP nab a trio of men.

Last week a couple of vehicles were broken into and a credit card was stolen. It was then used a number of times.

Police were called and the trio were arrested at a Castlegar hotel room.

Sgt Laurel Mathew says a woman reported the stolen card very quickly, and that was key.

The suspects were in possession of goods bought with the stolen card, and one of them had drugs on them.

And it turns out the truck they were using was stolen from Grande Prairie.

Two of the men are from Alberta.

They suspect it’s a couple who recently moved here from the lower mainland.

Cash and property was stolen from Gerick’s Cycle and Ackland Grainger.

The stolen truck used in the crimes was found and with the help of video surveillance a suspect has been arrested. His partner has been released.

Items stolen from Sound West in December and from a city of Trail work truck were also found.
