The new emergency power system for Nelson’s Kootenay Lake Hospital is going to cost almost double what was originally estimated.
The price is now $3.6 million and that could mean increased taxes for residents.
Regional Hospital Board Chair Marguerite Rotvold says it’s big money but the need for the back-up generators appears unavoidable.
Regional taxpayers are on the hook for 40% of the cost – that’s $1.4 million.
That’s half the total regional allocation towards all hospital building and equipment upgrades requested for 2015.
