Local youth referee heading for WHL experience

And a young hockey referee from our area isn’t discouraged by recent negativity against officials in BC.

In fact, Nelson’s Andrew Falcone will be part of the “WHL Officiating Experience” at the Kootenay Ice and Kelowna Rockets game in Cranbrook tomorrow.

After reffing 100 minor hockey games, 16 year old Falcone says he’s seen the ugly side of fans but nothing as bad as what has come to light from a Vancouver Island Junior B League.

Falcone is one of 180 officials between 12 and 20 that win a chance to be part of a WHL game this season and skate with the refs during the warmup.
