Nelson council finally seems set to formally address changes to the dog ban in the downtown.
The original bylaw is 26 years old.
Tonight’s city council meeting will include a recommendation by staff to create a leashed area in the core that effectively covers Baker and Vernon Streets.
Part of the bylaw changes will also see a strict schedule of fines. For example there would be a $150 fine for someone with a dog that is not on a leash.
And owners of unlicensed dogs or those not displaying their licence tag would receive a $100 fine.
