Habitat work planned for Kettle River speckled dace

Habitat restoration efforts are about to begin for a small minnow with an important role in the Kettle River.

Watershed co-ordinator Graham Watt says the speckled dace is plentiful here but still considered endangered.

There are key spots around Beaverdell, in the central Christian Valley, and up the Granby.

Work to begin at the end of march will see stream crossings improved and certain vegetation replanted.

There’s a public meeting Feb. 16 at the Westbridge community hall to explain how you can help.
