January snow 119% of normal in West Kootenay

The local weather office confirms that big dump of snow on Jan. 4 was a record for the day.

In their monthly report the Southeast Fire Centre says 34.2 cm fell at the Castlegar station.

However that was still well below the biggest one-day dump of all time which was 43.7 cm back in 1969.

We had 119 per cent of normal monthly snowfall in January but only 13 per cent of the normal rainfall.
