Nelson council wants the province and feds to petition insurance companies regarding roof-top sprinkler systems.
They will present a resolution at the upcoming Kootenay Boundary local governments convention.
It will call for home insurance premium reductions for homes that have an approved roof-top sprinkler system installed that combats wildfire risk.
Fire chief Len MacCharles says the equipment works.
MacCharles says fire-smart practices like reducing growth and debris around a home is important and having a roof-top sprinkler system is a great asset.
He says his department will be doing more public education around the devices in the coming months.
