Prescribed burn planned for Harrop Creek planned

A prescribed burn has been scheduled for the Harrop Creek area as early as Monday, April 28.

The project is being conducted by BC Wildfire Service and the Harrop-Procter Community Co-operative and will be located approximately two kilometres south east of Harrop and cover up to 11 hectares.

The Southeast Fire Centre is warning residents and commuters on Highway 3A to expect smokey conditions.

The exact timing of the burn depends on weather and site conditions. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable to achieve objectives and allow for smoke dispersal, though smoke may linger in the following days, particularly the morning after burn operations.

Despite all precautions to manage it, unintended smoke impacts are possible after any burn.
