The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations says they are well aware of the fishery issue on Kootenay Lake and are taking the situation seriously.
This in response to claims from the BC Wildlife Federation that they’re not doing enough to address the Kokanee collapse and the knock-on effect on trout.
In a statement the Ministry tells us it is continuing fish restoration actions and monitoring work.
They add ministry staff will attend the public meeting arranged by the BCWF and local chamber of commerce at the Balfour Hall on Monday at 7 pm. They will provide info, and hear concerns and ideas, which will help inform their further actions.
