Nelson gets Salmo auditing cleaned up

Nelson’s financial department has now brought Salmo’s accounting troubles into order.

The village’s issues with staffing expertise and resources meant for example they hadn’t filed GST reports since December 2012.

The Queen City’s CFO Colin McClure says municipalities who fall behind like this can have their crucial gas tax held back by government.

And he’s heard it can also give them a black mark on chances of getting grants.

Salmo’s accounting mess resulted in a much bigger bill from their previous auditors.

Nelson now has a contract to handle the books at Salmo, Silverton and Slocan because of the challenges in securing qualified staff.
