GF wants review of H4H housing proposal

Grand Forks city council wants a deeper conversation with the non-profit group that runs the transition shelter, Whispers of Hope and Habitat for Humanity.

They’ve proposed having a restore centre on the adjacent lot at 72nd and 1st and for Habitat for Humanity to build housing above that.

Councillor Christine Thompson says they support the group’s activities but the creation of permanent housing at that location is an issue.

The group wants an extension to a 10-year lease so they can get grants from BC Housing .

But Thompson says the new council needs to review if another location may be better.
