What’s Slocan’s economic future?

The village of Slocan needs to think beyond a micro-hydro project as it ponders it’s economic future.

This from Abram Davis with the Springer Creek Restoration and Preservation Alliance.

Following the closure of the local mill the village is seeking other revenue ideas.

But Davis thinks the village should get wider expert advice on harnessing the unique recreation and biodiversity at the creek and canyon to attract tourism and newcomers.

The village has had studies done that shows a run-of-river hydro project could cost over $3 million.

It would generate about $300,000 a year in revenue
