Can Nelson afford police body cams?

There are pro’s and con’s to investing in police body cameras.

This from Nelson mayor Deb Kozak who is also chair of the Police Board in response to the latest high-level push for such devices in BC.

She says the costs are an issue.

She’s also interested to hear what the Privacy Commissioner has to say about things such as the collection of video images of people not involved in police actions.

Kozak says body cameras would help protect the public and clarify police actions and the matter will come up for a fuller discussion at the police board.
