The City of Castlegar is hoping to teach old dogs new tricks – or should that be their owners?
They’re increasing enforcement of its animal control bylaw and will be working to minimize canine conflicts in all community parks.
City councillor Dan Rye says they’ve recently received letters from concerned residents about off-leash dogs and they also experienced issues after the Millennium Ponds opened last summer.
Rye says its a public educuation effort to remind residents to keep dogs on-leash and adds their will likely be a grace period before tickets are handed out.
A person who violates the bylaw may be fined between $50 and $2,000.
