The benches at the new Victoria Street transit exchange are expected to be installed by the end of August.
The exchange has been operational since June 30, though some finishing touches remained – including landscaping, bus shelters, benches and a portable washroom.
While the shelters have gone up in recent weeks, residents have taken to social media to question the absence of benches.
City staff told council on August 19 that procurement delays pushed back delivery, adding that crews also had to address site-specific challenges before ordering.
“They had some supply issues with the benches that just dragged it out,” said Community Planning Manager Chris Johnson
“The ground is sloped, and no one wants to sit on an angle, right? So they put the shelters in to kind of map it out, see exactly the grade. But it takes a little bit longer,” added CFO Chris Jury
A portable washroom has also been installed at the site, but it won’t be fully functional until the end of the month.
