West Arm Park to expand

The West Arm Provincial Park on Kootenay Lake is getting about 5% bigger.

The expansion is part of legislation proposed by the Ministry of Environment to create more protected areas in certain BC parks.

In the case of the West Arm there will be about 1,200 hectares added, taking the total size to over 26,000 hectares.

The aim is to protect old growth forests and the endangered Mountain Caribou.

The new area comes after a private land acquisition ten years ago.
