It’s time to clarify the history of the current deal and work out a new one when it comes to shared recreation between Nelson and its neighbours.
This from mayor Deb Kozak following a request from Area F Director Tom Newell for Nelson to re-instate funding it controversially withdrew from the shared deal in January.
Without that money residents of Area F and part of E face a bigger tax bill for the community complex. But Nelson says they pulled that money to prompt urgent discussion on the need to negotiate a new deal.
Kozak says Nelson is prepared to discuss all options.
Nelson says when the original deal was struck 40 years ago the neighboring areas didn’t have the populations they have now so the three partners should be paying more equitably.
Nelson council has discussed Newell’s request and Kozak says the door is not closed on further short-term talks.
