Nelson’s ambitious Regional Visitor Gateway project has received plenty of grants over the years.
And the Chamber of Commerce is hopeful of securing another big one as the rail station renovation at the foot of Baker Street nears completion later this year.
Executive Director Tom Thomson says their application for $300,000 for external beautification and civil works is a strong one and also involves a push to bring fibre optic broadband to this nascent part of the Queen City.
This grant would also include the cost of placing the two Fairbanks-Morse diesel-electric locomotives on permanent static display.
The grant money comes from a special UBCM pot of Federal Gas Tax money.
